2010 Race Dates!

Storm Racing and Hark Events have finalized their 2010 race schedule, and it looks like this:

Salomon Storm the Trent - May 15-16, 2010
We'll be returning to our 2-day race weekend format to accommodate even more racers next year, with the "Trek" and "Trek Elite" events scheduled for Saturday, and our beginner-friendly "Hike" course to take place on the Sunday. Watch for host site details to be posted soon!

ESAR - Saturday June 19, 2010
The eight annual edition of the Emergency Services Adventure Race will be staged on all-new ground in 2010, and will feature both the regular ESAR as well as the more compact "ESAR-Lite" racecourses staged from an amazing new host site!

Saucony RockstAR - Saturday July 24, 2010
Year 3 of this awesome new race concept will be even bigger and better in 2010, and with the unbelievable 400% increase in registration we saw this year, you'll definitely want to sign up early so that you don't miss out!

Salomon Storm the Ten - Saturday Sept. 18, 2010
Canada's first and only relay-style adventure race, hosted alongside the magnificent Niagara Escarpment. If you liked the course adjustments we made in 2009, just wait to see what we've got in the works for next year!

It's Fall - Time for Raid the Hammer!

On Sunday November 8, check out the 10th Anniversary edition of the Salomon Dontgetlost.ca Raid The Hammer adventure run. It's going to be an epic "East meets West" race through the City of Hamilton from the Redhill Valley along the Niagara Escarpment to the Dundas Valley. Teams of three can expect lots of climbing, tough route choices, and some gnarly running (with surprisingly few roads) through the "Raid" (about 25km) and "Enduro" (about 10km) course options.

Friday, October 2, 2009

Next Up - Saucony Trek or Treat!

Don't miss Canada's only Halloween-themed night trail running event on Friday October 16th, hosted by our good friends at Hark Events. This 5km or 10km trail run through the Lions Valley trails in Oakville is always a ton of fun, featuring on-course haunters and a section routed through a real cemetary, free pumpkins for the first 100 registered racers, best costume prizing, and even a "Creepy Mile" event for the little ones! Check out all the details at trekortreat.ca

RockstAR ROCKS Bark Lake!

The 2009 Saucony RockstAR was a massive success, and in spite of the uncooperative weather, there were more smiling faces at the finish line and good cheer at the awards ceremonies than we've ever seen in 8 years of race production! Salomon Storm the Trent - what a day!

It was definitely one for the record books! Not only did this year's race draw the most racers to ever attend an adventure race in Ontario; sell out at the fastest rate in eight years; see more non-motorized boats on Stoco Lake than may have ever been recorded; but it also represented the wettest, muddiest, sloppiest, most rain-soaked event we've ever held!!

Congratulations to all teams for your intrepid spirits in the face of Mother Nature's worst! You were amazing to watch in action, and we are truly thrilled with how this year's race panned out despite of the uncooperative weather.

RESULTS
Full results are now posted for all events at www.stormevents.ca

PHOTOS
Over 1,000 Race Day pics are available for viewing and/or purchase at mikewasthere.zoomphoto.ca Special thanks to Photographer Mike Van Den Bosch for capturing the event so well, and for all his assistance on Race Day and in the days leading up to it!

Our many, many thanks to Casey Trudeau and his staff, Pete Cameron, Mark Arnold, Vin Lee, Bruce Young, Pat Mooney, Rob Lloyd, Matt Parkhurst, my whole family, St. John Ambulance, Quinte Broadcasting, and our AWESOME crew of volunteers for all their support on Race Day!

Salomon Storm the Trent - 50 spots left!

We're not kidding! After an unprecedented kick-start during the first two months of registration for the May 9th event, there are now less than 50 of the 500 total spots left for this year's Salomon Storm the Trent! Given that it is more than likely that this year's race is going to be fully sold out within a matter of weeks, we urge you to register your team today!

Please also note that we are now basically booked up for on-site boat rentals - if your "Hike" or "Trek" team is in need of a canoe and you need it transported to and from the race site, contact us now at "info at stormevents dot ca", as there are only a few left!*

* note - all teams in the "Trek Elite" advanced course will have their canoes provided for them

Salomon Storm the Trent Now 80% Full!

Registration for this year's Salomon Storm the Trent has started off at a record pace, with eighty percent of the 500 available spaces already filled! Be it the lure of Salomon-sponsored prizing for top finishers, the all-new racecourses and the new resort-style host site, the return to our traditional "straight-time" race format, or the all-round good times racers have come to expect from this annual rite of Spring, it seems fairly likely that this year's race will reach full capacity once again. Register soon to avoid disappointment!

Racecourse Re-Design for Storm the 10

Watch for a new course layout to be unveiled at the 2009 Salomon Storm the Ten, designed to minimize transitions per lap and maximize on-course enjoyment! We at Storm Racing continue to be blown away by all that Milton's Kelso Conservation Area offers us in staging Canada's only relay-style adventure race, and we can't wait to return for Year 3 as we prepare for even bigger and better things to come. Watch for more details to be posted throughout the year!

In the meantime, check out the new race video!

RockstAR Returns!

Take it from those who were there - Saucony RockstAR is the new "MUST DO" adventure race event! On July 25, 2009, we will rock you once again - this time with both 4-hour and 8-hour race options, designed to suit teams of all levels. We'll be cranking things up another notch at the Bark Lake Leadership Centre to exceed the standard set at last year's inaugural event, which was unanimously voted by the organizing team of Storm Racing and Hark Events as "the most 'funnest' race we've ever produced."

Don't take our word for it though - check out the glowing review from Team Running Free member Sally Heath, in her race report available at runningfree.com, or check out the 2008 video at www.racetherockstar.com

New Host Site For 2009 Storm the Trent

For 2009, Canada's largest adventure sports event will take on a whole new region; feature three all-new racecourses hosted from a resort setting; and will return to the traditional "straight-time" (ie. not points-based) race format of years past. As always, solo racers and teams of 2 or 4 will have the choice of three separate events, custom-designed to suit a wide range of skill and ability levels, but without the set time limits imposed at the 2008 event. Race options will include:

Hike short-course (3-5 hours)
Trek long-course (4-6 hours)
Trek Elite advanced course (6-8 hours)

For 2009, Trudeau Park Resort, just east of the village of Tweed will welcome the eighth annual Storm'ing of the Trent, and we could not be more excited about it! Past host to the World Electronic Music Festival, Trudeau Park features camping accommodations for over 1,000 people, in addition to its own resort-style motel, bar & lounge, and restaurant facilities.

The region surrounding Trudeau Park is equally as well-suited for STT; boasting all of the elements that make for an awesome day of off-road multi-sport. This area has never played host to an adventure race event, and the local community is eagerly awaiting the arrival of up to 500 racers next May. Start getting your team together now to ensure that you don't miss out!

2009 RACE SEASON PRESENTED BY SALOMON

Be assured that our races next season will feature tons and tons of awesome Salomon prizing!

This all-new event concept features a never-done-before race format and an emphasis on treating racers as the rock stars you are, staged from the Bark Lake Leadership Centre; the mecca of all Ontario AR racecourse sites. Teams of 2 or 3 will face a timed 8-hour multi-sport challenge through the heart of the Haliburton Highlands, then party like rock stars under the cottage country night skies. Registration will open in coming weeks, but complete details are now available at www.racetherockstar.com
